The Eden Projects 25th Birthday Cake!

A cake that tells a story!

I had the huge pleasure of being asked to create The Eden Project’s 25th Birthday cake!

When The Eden Project team commissioned the cake they gave me a brief - to tell the story of the last 25 years of Eden in cake form, from pit to paradise...

We discussed key moments in their journey that they wanted included, and, with the help of lots of photos and my own experience of being a visitor to Eden over the past 25 years, a design was born!

The story starts at the very bottom of the cake with the hand crafted sugar napkins on the base board... these are replicas of the initial sketches for the domes at Eden, done in the pub (where all the best ideas are brewed!)

The base tier on the front shows the old china clay pit as a blank canvas for the project with the first diggers. The back of the base tier shows the iconic domes starting to be built with cranes and climbers.

The next tier shows Eden starting to grow... with the gardeners starting the planting, the core building being added, sculptures being introduced into the gardens including the famous giant bee and the seed sculpture which sits central to the core.

The hexagonal tier gives a nod to some of the important events and community projects that Eden has been a part of over the years.

The top 2 tiers represent Eden as it is now - the thriving Mediterranean and tropical biomes full of colour with some of thier planting and sculptural elements such as the sugar truck and aerial walkway finishing with the famous domes bathed in sunshine at the top!

I'm going to be honest and say it was a labour of love painting this one but I loved every single moment!!
